Request to Drop Below Full-Time Registration

International students in F-1 or J-1 status must maintain full-time registration three of every four quarters or two semesters per year. The following are the guidelines for Benedictine University:

Ph.D. & Cohort students must register full-time as determined by their program
Graduate Quarter Programs must maintain a minimum of 8 credit hours per quarter
Graduate & Undergraduate Semester Programs must maintain 12 credit hours per semester.

Exceptions are very limited and must be approved IN ADVANCE of being part-time. If you feel you qualify, provide the following information and set up an appointment to see the International Student Adviser. Please note that this form is only regarding your immigration status. You must also talk with your academic adviser or Dean of Students.

Academic Difficulties - (limited to one term only and limited to dropping only 1 course) A letter from your department or academic adviser must be attached to attest to one of the following difficulties: initial difficulty with the English language or reading requirements, unfamiliarity with U.S. teaching methods, or improper course level placement. Medical Conditions - (not to exceed 12 months while pursuing current degree) Documentation from a licensed medical doctor, doctor of osteopathy, or licensed clinical psychologist must be attached stating that you are not able to attend classes this quarter or not able to attend classes full-time this quarter. The document does not have to contain a diagnosis or details of your condition or illness. This permission must be reauthorized each quarter. Completion of course of study - You can qualify if this is the final term of your program of study and you have fewer courses needed to complete than what constitutes full-time study.
