Housing Cancellation Request

All students entering the fall semester signed an academic year housing agreement, which holds each student financially accountable for the housing costs through May 2023. I understand that if I cancel housing mid-year or any time prior to the end of the academic year I am liable for the early termination fee of $1000 at minimum, as well as any housing or meal plan charges that apply based upon the refund schedule set forth in Housing & Residence Life Handbook and/or the listed Housing and Meal Plan Refund Policy area of the University's web page.

Students no longer attending the University  (e.g. financial, graduating, fall only foreign exchange, students withdrawing, or transferring) must notify University Housing and submit a  Housing Cancellation Request form within 48hours of enrollment change, and follow the housing check-out procedures. Submissions should include the reason for not returning to Housing and provide supporting documentation (e.g. graduation clearanceuniversity exit form, a recommendation from financial aid).

Please refer to Section I.& VI under the terms and conditions state:

Section I. B.  Binding Effect of Agreement - On the date, the student completes this Agreement and electronically confirms his/her agreement to all the terms and conditions set forth herein, this Agreement is automatically binding on the student and the University for the entire academic year (fall and spring semesters as scheduled below). However, in the case of any student that is allowed to enroll full-time at the University for the spring semester of the academic year and requests and is approved by Housing to reside in campus housing, this Agreement, will be binding on that student and the University for the spring semester only.

  • Semester I, Fall (2022): August 27, 2022, to December 16, 2022
  • Semester II, Spring (2023): January 15, 2023, to May 12, 2023

Section VI. A. Cancellation at Student’s Request - ...The student may cancel this Agreement without any liability or financial obligation by providing written notice of cancellation to the Director of Housing within 24 hours of submitting the Agreement or confirmation of room selection, whichever comes first. Early termination fees will be applied to cancellation requests received after this period and charged to the student if Housing approves the student’s release from this Agreement. Below is a list of the possible reasons Housing may consider when evaluating any student request for the University to cancel this Agreement:

i. Unanticipated financial hardship arising after the beginning of the academic semester.

ii. Serious medical or health problem that is directly related to residence hall living.

iii. Marriage during the term of Agreement.

iv. Affiliation with Benedictine University programs that are away from campus.

v. Other reasons as deemed appropriate at the discretion of the Housing office.

Section VI. E.  Impact of Change in Enrollment Status - This Agreement remains in effect during the full-time enrollment of the student. In the event that the student’s enrollment drops below full time or withdraws from his/her entire class schedule, the student is required to contact Housing to make appropriate arrangements:

i. If enrollment drops below full-time, the resident is required to provide a written request to remain in housing for the balance of the current term.

ii. If the student withdraws from all courses, he/she will be required to remove all personal belongings and return keys within 48 hours of withdrawing from the last class.

iii. If the student takes a leave of absence or withdraws from the institution at any point in the semester, he/she will be required to remove all personal belongings and return keys within 48 hours of completing that action.
